Press Release Review
The City Council met Monday to review the status of the City Administrator’s contract. After lengthy and lively closed session discussion, the City Council voted to rescind its original declaration which found the Administrator in breach.
The reasons why may make for a lively discussion in the comments attached. My interest here is in the press release issued by the Mayor and Council’s Offices on October 9th. Generally, I am pleased that the City Council and Administrator are moving in a positive direction. My concern is for the language found in the press release as I did not support on Monday an action to rescind the breach and issue this statement.
The Mayor writes, “It is clear City Administrator Malin is entitled to cost of living adjustments granted other employees.” The letter then begins in the second paragraph by stating, “The Council has rescinded the August Breach notice and approved an amendment to Mr. Malin’s employment agreement clarifying and amending sections of the contract.”
These two sentences conflict. How can something be “clear” yet require “clarifying and amending.”
My goal here is not to continue to rehash this situation, but rather offer to you my stance on this issue. I as well look forward to working on the council goals and agenda over the next year.
