Small Projects

While walking the ward last summer I noticed a number of small projects which need some city attention. These projects include such items as completing or mending sidewalks, placing protective grates over culverts and storm water drains and mending curbs and potholes.

I have been working on making sure the larger CIP projects are completed soon such as resurfacing Northwest Blvd and 49th Street. I am looking for some help in listing and reporting the small projects which may not need CIP funds or even a small portion of CIP funds to complete.

Does this include tree limbs that may hang over into the street in residential areas? Or would that be home owner responsibility?

If you would like a list, just make a thread with some boundries of N-S-E-W, and we would be glad to give you needed items anonymously. For example, divide the 2nd ward into 10 sections, and it could be reported easily that way.

This includes tree limbs. I can send a letter to the homeowner. The area where I need a list from is North of Kimberly and West of Pine up to Ridgeview. Thanks for any help you can give.

2420 40th street has a sidewalk trip hazzard on the south and west side. 2510 40th street has a trip hazzard on the south side. 4104 Linwood has a trip hazzard on the east side. 4112 linwood has a hole in the sidewalk. 4120 41st street has a trip hazzard on the north sidewalk. 2337 41st street the sidewalk has partially sunk. 2325 41st street has a sidewalk trip hazzard. 4022 Pine has a sidewalk trip hazzard. The church at 41st and pine has not yet installed sidewalks on both the 41st and Lincoln sides of their property. The alley between Pine and Handcock streets between 43rd and 44th street has numerous potholes.

43rd and Handcock, the water pools deep in the n/e corner of the intersection. Just north of the house at 4410 Lincoln, about a 10 food section is missing from the sidewalk. 4410 N. Lincoln has a sidewalk trip hazzard near the manhole in the front sidewalk, and additionally has a sunken sidewalk on the 44th street side that gathers and ponds water. 2525+2617+2622 w. 43rd have sidewalk trip hazzards. 4308 has a storm basin in the street that is raised up, plus a trip hazzard in the sidewalk. 2604+2531+2525+2518 W. 44th street have sidewalk trip hazzards. 2503 w. 44th has a spruce tree that partially blocks the sidewalk, plus there is an old car out in the street with a flat that appears to have been setting there for awhile. 2412 w. 44th, the sidewalk has sunk. In the center of the street by the manhole cover at 44th and thornwood, there is a pothole. The zoning should be checked on HyVee for all the storage they are doing in the parking lot. They have tons of pallet loads of stuff plus a very large metal container for storage. It looks bad, and either should be removed or a very tall privacy fence installed to hide it from people driving by and the neighbors having to view it. Finially, the curbing is broken at HyVee's pine entrance, and the curbing is also broken at the N/E corner of Kimberly and Pine. It appears when the Hyvee semi's are turning in, that they are breaking the curbs.

Thanks for the list. Keep them coming.

The N/E corner of Hillandale and 34th Street ponds alot of water when it rains. Also, on Fairmount, just north of the library just as you cross the railroad tracks going north, during the heavy rainstorm 2 months ago, the sholder was had a washout on the west side of Fairmount. The city put up a baracade after it happened, and no repair has been done since then.

I would sure be nice if we could finish the sidewalks leading to the new library. I find it funny the City built a sidewalk in front of the Library with out connecting those walkways at either north or south end. The north end is about thirty five foot away from the Duck Creek Bridge sidewalk on Fairmount. That to me is not very good planning or engineering. I can understand waiting on building the southbound sidewalk but the northbound sidewalk could have been completed real easy at less cost to the tax payers in the long run. Now we will be paying mobilization set up etc etc just to finish thirty five foot of sidewalk……Thanks for asking for suggestions, you are doing a great job.

Thanks Again

At Lincoln and Central Park, right by the railroad tracks, look up the tracks NORTH. Over a year ago, the railroad did some replacement work, and left a Mountain of Debris that can be seen from both Central Park and Lincoln Avenue. This has been there over a year now. The railroad should clean it up, or the city should clean it up and bill them for it. I have heard that sometimes when the city does work for the railroad, they are not billed for it. It is only fair for them to pay if the city has to clean up after them. This includes when the city crew has to mow rail property.

I have the library director ready to speak about the sidewalk issues at my ward meeting tomorrow. She will also speak on why mowing was delayed. I will check into the railroad and make a request. Thanks for the note.

Thanks for the reply on our sidewalks in front of the library. I wasn’t able to get to our ward meeting however I was wondering if the library director was able to give any insight on the sidewalks leading to the library. It sure would be nice if the library could be accessed using sidewalks instead of dirt paths. It would also be nice to access the library from the bike path. Although it looks like plans are in place to do that. Living close to the library it sure would be nice to walk instead of drive. But walking along the west side of Fairmount is not the easiest thing to do without a sidewalk.

Thanks Again
