Cars

Last week Beverly Peterson from the Castlewood Apartment complex came before council to discuss a new program she is implementing to control crime in the area. I must compliment her for her effort. We have still seen an increase in crime in the past week. I have received reports of items stolen from unlocked cars on streets Emerald to Elsie. These cars were looted between midnight and 5:00am and we have requested an extra patrol in the area.

Was this just one night or several nights through the weekend? Is the neighborhood watch that is in place stationary or one of those where they drive around checking out things? Was it the kind of items that juveniles would take and do they think the culprits were from Castlewood?

I talked to Mike Bladel this afternoon again about this subject. We believe the man who was breaking into cars was picked up early this morning on the corner of Michigan and Central Park. He was asking residents if they needed work done on their home and then returning later in the evening to steal items he saw while he was first in the home or near the cars.

Last summer a string of similar incidents occurred and we believe the looters came from the Castlewood Apartment Complex. I must agree that it is socially improper for me to assume that the gentleman picked up this morning came from the complex this time.
