I will be hosting a ward meeting this Saturday at 1pm at the Fairmount Branch library. I hope you can attend. We will be discussing issues that have come before and will be coming up at future meetings.

Questions I have concerning the farmers market... those who think this is a great idea keep stressing the point that we need a grocery store downtown. I'm not sure what there putting on their families dinners tables but other than the fruits and vegetables offered during the summer growing season where exactly does pottery, baskets, flowers, trinket jewelery and other assorted doodads fall into the food pyramid? If they want a grocery store why arent they talking with Hy-Vee or some other chain? And to my knowledge, although certainly not one of the best, Sav-a lot is a grocery store and is located just several blocks west of the Freight House. Further the farmers market is already successfully operating on that corner and if they truly believe that it will be profitable to operate it all year long let them put their money where their mouth is. This should not be subsidized by the taxpayers.
Thank you Alderman Hammerlinck for your first 6 weeks on the council. You have already proved to Davenport that you are going to be the leader for the next two years. You have also shown great control, when it is your turn to speak, and the Mayor has called on you, when Jamie Howard starts babbling in the background while you are speaking. Most others, with less decorum, would lean over and slap her silly. But you are able to handle it properly, and we thank you for that.
Anonymous, I deleted your comments because of their vulgar content. I welcome you to give me a ring at 529-4857 and discuss any concerns you have about what I have been doing in my short time in office.
In future posts I hope you can bring some ideas to this discussion on how to handle our current budget deficit.

I can only think of one word to describe your lastest stunt at the council meeting, "professional" it takes a real professional to refuse to do their job to get some extra publicity, a real professional to ignore issues instead of deal with them and a real professional to take an absentee attitude toward the job that less than 15% of registered voters elected him to do.
Youre a one term clown hamerlinck and nothing more

Just seems to me that those 5 Aldermen had better not try any motions to reconsider during their term.
I remember a saying that was scribbled in one of my autograph books growing up, "Your the clown that came to town and turned a frown upside down." If you are a clown, we need more of the circus to roll in. If you are appealing to the people in the second ward who voted you in, thats all that is asked of you. Its not your fault that the voters did not show up and if people are concerned they should vote during the election and have positive solutions instead of negative insults toward someone whom is trying to do a GREAT job. Thanks for your service.
