Garbage

I was called by some of you last night concerning the possibility of having an automated garbage service in Davenport. At the Fire and Police Union Forum I made my stance clear that I was not interested in the automated service for the reasons of: the trucks are to large for many streets in the city, the starting cost will be an additional financial burden on taxpayers, the average amount of garbage collected will be cut in half, there will be limited bulk pickup, additional containers for larger families will come at a fee, bulk trash not picked up will end up in ditches in the rural community.

I was informed last night that the council considered having a closed meeting today to discuss progression towards the automated service. Discussion on the topic does not frustrate me as much as an attempt by the current council to force the automated service upon residents before the new council takes control.

The majority of residents made their opinions known that they were for a new sex offender ordinance and against a new automated garbage service. What we are getting is the exact opposite. For some reason many Alderman have forgotten that they sit in positions of public service.

Thanks for listening!

Rural ravines? In the east end we have many ravines of trash now!

It will only get far worse!

It seems like a done deal though, the trash cans have been bid out
