Black Hawk Hotel
The Davenport City Council is currently discussing employing a consulting firm to decide the best means by which to deal with the Black Hawk Hotel. The price tag for this consulting session is $112,000.
We must first realize that the Black Hawk Hotel is privately owned and the City Council is discussing how to use tax dollars to assist a private enterprise. The free market is probably the best resource by which the City can gain its’ desired information and employing a consultant seems a bit excessive.
The current council must take at least partial responsibility for the eventual demise of the Black Hawk Hotel. By approving the Isle of Capri to move two blocks to the East and build a new hotel, parking ramp, and convention center it essentially drove the Black Hawk Hotel, the River Center and the City owned parking ramps out of business.
Why would a potential auto show want to host an event at the River Center when the Isle of Capri has a new hotel and parking ramp attached to theirs?

Anonymous, thank you for the correction. I have no problem stating when I have made a mistake. My goal in this blog is to get your opinion on the matter. How do you feel about my initial perspective on this issue?
$12.00 or $112.000.00 does not matter it is still to MUCH!!!!!! We did this once before and now we need another SURVEY. ( go figure)
I after seeing what what was said, in the QC Times (City did not offer a opinion) about the Storm Water Fee I do not think that the SO CALLED CITY LEADERS have the best intrest of the People of DAVENPORT in mind.
Maybe I am wrong, or maybe I am not in tuned. But if the CITY LEADERS would come forward and give the people who pay THEIR Paycheck a Honest answer, we might understand.
I wounder what a sum of $112,000.00 would provide for the people of Davenport?
Maybe a couple of Officer's or maybe, a couple of Firemen who can handle a fire truck. (or at least some training)
I here all the ad's about how Davenport is the ONE. They can't even keep the MOLESTER'S off the STREET or let alone fight a MAJOR FIRE.
But they sure can spend the money to show a Case Bridge.

How can we decide if we want to take the Blackhawk (it has been offered for free) in order to keep the River Center going or even do better, or decide to tear the Center down and leave the IOC with the Blackhawk (and watch it deteriorate more) unless we study what the Blackhawk can become? Head in the sand does not often work.
