We Are Cattle
“You are cattle.” This is the stamp the City of Davenport’s current council is planning on placing upon our foreheads with their next vote.
My first problem is with the new cameras on Davenport’s streets that are intended to increase revenue, I mean, catch speeders. City safety was not the basis for implementing this program. If it was, we would have seen a similar program in the works since the technology became available in the mid 90’s. If the City Council were truly concerned about your safety they would have paid for a full-time officer to park at each intersection. Only when potential revenue exceeded the cost of the technology did we notice action.
For those of you who have read on my website, you noticed that I predicted a snow removal fee this fall. This City Council seems to have proven me wrong and may have found a revenue source elsewhere.
I want the City of Davenport to prove me wrong and show me that this program’s intentions are only for the wellbeing of the community. Charge all city public works and city employee vehicles the same fines at the same rate you do everyone else. Keep a log of these charges and make them public. (With the current council I highly doubt this will happen.)
My second problem today is with an upcoming vote where the City Council is planning on limiting comments at City Council meetings to only five minutes. We are essentially being told that when we know our elected officials are acting in an erroneous manner we must keep our mouths shut, get in line, take a number, and keep our independent thoughts to a minimum. Has the current City Council forgotten they were elected by the people? The job of a City Council member is to represent and give a voice. Instead, they just ripped it away.
We are but cattle. The current City Council lacks trust and faith in the same people who elected them. They have told you that you must be monitored and your behavior limited for your own wellbeing. The Council is acting like a cattle ranchers who monitors a herd for fear it will become unruly. Or, it could be about just plain profit.
Ask yourself what is freedom and who has the right to take it away. I don’t want to hit a point where I must ask for permission to live my own life.

When you thought all the ways to tax people had been done.
The Davenport City Leaders have pulled one right out of the Stupid Idea Book.
They are going to Tax my right to speak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How orignal.
We are taxed now because mother nature makes rain or H20
We are taxed because we are recycling.
We are taxed cause we have Garbage. ( I wounder if we could consider the current Davenport leaders Garbage and tax them? )
We are taxed because we have sewers.
Plus they want to add speed cameras.
We already have red light cameras.
I would not be surprised if they decide to tax the air we breath. ( oh I know the goverment is on their case on the dirty air we have) ( I think I know where it coming from, there is a dark cloud hanging over City Hall) You think it might be sewer gas?
I think it is time that people of Davenport take long hard look at it so called Leaders. And put their foot down and vote the clowns out of office.
We need to make a clean sweep and start with a new look and new ideas instead of riding on the tax payers buck.
