Reply to Drape
YOU ARE RIGHT ON THE BUTTON AND WE NEED NEW FACES WITH FRESH IDEAS WHICH WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THAT NOT ALL CITIZENS CAN AFFORD THE GEE GAAS THAT ARE BEING ERECTED IN DOWNTOWN DAVENPORT. IF THEY WERE ALL SELF SUSTAINING WITHOUT TAXPAYER SUPPORT TO OPERATE AND MAINTAIN FOR THE NEXT HOW MANY YEARS--20 FOR THE RME BUILDING GREAT, BUT WE KNOW THAT IS NOT TRUE.
GOOD PAYING JOBS WITH BENEFITS, A FUTURE AND A PENSION ARE WHAT IS NEEDED TO BRING THIS AREA BACK TO IT'S FEET. LARGE INDUSTRIAL MANUFACTURING, ASSEMBLY PLANTS, PARTS PRODUCTION, ETC.
STRENGTHEN THE ASSISTANCE TO SMALL BUSINESSES WHO WISH TO GET STARTED OR STAY IN BUSINESS.
IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO LIVE DOWNTOWN, THEN INCREASE RETAIL OUTLETS TO MEET THE RESIDENTS NEEDS FOR FOOD, CLOTHING, SHOES, PHARMACY, ETC. SOMETHING WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF THEIR DWELLINGS AND SAFE STREETS FREE OF GANGS, DRUG DEALERS, PROSTITUTES, ETC.
JUST SOME THOUGHTS TO IMPROVE DAVENPORT FOR EVERYONE.

Thank you for your commitment to the City and it's Safety Officer Swanson. ( yes I know you are retired but in this residents eyes you are still a Officer of Davenport.)
I was reading from another Blog on how Davenport was spending it's so called money. ( Or should I say Tax payers sweat. )
On a Sky bridge....
Maybe they should of considered spending the 7 mil in a different way. Like Police Protection and Fire Proetection.
I often wounder how much 7 mil would of payed for in those City Services?
Maybe we would of had a Moble Task Team work all those problem areas. Or maybe just have the presence of being seen out there, looking and taking care of our City.
Honest Leadeship is what we need.
Don't take my tax and spend it on something that will never solve the problems. Like rape, murder,drug dealers, and the Gangs.
Would 7 mil help the people of Davenport? Would we have better protection? Would families feel safer?
If we had it, maybe they people would feel better.
But instead we have to cheap it out.
Cameras
and more Cameras.
This Davenporter would rather see a Officer than a pole with a glass lens on it.

Hey Shawn, this is Ryan Baustian, I just found out your running for alderman I think? anyhow, I think its great, I have read all your views and I agree with all of them! I do not live in Davenport, but I do work in Davenport, I am working for the ambulance service in Davenport, and your right, we DO NEED more police officers! desperatly, the few that we do have, work their tails off, but sometimes they are still comming up short because of staffing issues, sometimes its down right impossable to get a police officer when you need one, maybe because of all the money was spent for "Green space" and bridges to nowhere and not on what we really need, Police officers, all of these nice buildings are wonderfull, but whats gonna happen to them now that we cant protect the folks that are going to be paying the admission to visit them? Crime on the streets of Davenport is riseing, and fast, all of the people who were locked up 8-10 years ago are getting out.
