From Tom Monroe
I would like to introduce myself to you and your fellow bloggers. My name is Tom Monroe and I am a resident of Davenport, a resident of the Second Ward and a Register Voter in Iowa. I am also the Campaign Manager for Shawn Hamerlinck for Second Ward Alderman.
As you will know the filling deadline is nearing for the general election. As you have posted there seems to be little action but a lot of drama by the candidates or so called candidates.
With that being said, I would like to give you some insight on what is going on in the Second Ward of Davenport. Shawn has a passion and a cause to win. When he first asked me, how do I win this election? I asked him, why do you want to be alderman? His answer was simple and down to earth. The people of Davenport need a voice because they are owed it and they pay for it. His words are not mine, “The people of Davenport are tired of fees and taxes and irresponsible investments. They City Council now tells them (citizens) that their voices will be restricted and restricting voices is the most dangerous thing they have done so far.”
We have been out visiting our neighbors and our friends. We feel that the concerns of our residents merit the utmost respect. So we try not to play on headlines nor brag. We do our homework. For the residents of Davenport and the Second Ward, Shawn has had the same passion since the beginning. It is time the people’s voice is heard.
One of the arts of politics is to know the field. As you well know this field is getting crowded. As a first time Alderman candidate, Shawn has been out doing his homework. He is making sure that if he gets the call to serve his city he will serve it well (With the backing of the 2nd Ward Constituents). He has met a lot of people from all parts of the residential spectrum including the business sector. As you will read in the next 24 hours he will get an endorsement from a perspective candidate that has decided not to run.
On Monday August 29, 2005 at 10:00A.M. we will be filing Mr. Hamerlinck’s nomination papers for alderman (Will we see you there?). This was set in stone many months ago. Reason being is that Shawn wants to make sure that he has the voice of the people of Davenport on his side.
In closing, I would like to take a moment and wish every one that is still thinking on running, please do! This election is going to reshape the future of Davenport and its future will be the birth of a bright new history.

I finally was honored to meet Mr Hamerlink tonight. I think, he will bring a great presence to the second ward. We could use representation from a young family man. I hope you will take the time to visit with him and I'm sure you will be impressed by his williness to bring change to the city.
I believe Mr. Hamerlinck is just what the second ward needs in it's elected official. I'm urging all residents of the ward to vote Oct. 11th in the primary. Remember, every vote counts and it's up to us to help bring the needed changes to our community. VOTE!!!!
